Bill Maher had choice words for his audience when they started laughing at mention of the recent attempts on Donald Trump’s laugh.
Maher was presenting his show on Friday when he brought up the biggest story of the last week: the second attempt on Donald Trump’s life, last Sunday.
“So let’s not bury the lede, the big story this week is they’re trying to shoot Trump again,” Maher said. Members of the audience began to hoot.
“That’s not funny,” Maher responded, which led to more laughter.
“Okay, I’m being serious now, it’s the second time this happened. I said this before, there can be no fuzz on this. This is not funny, okay?
“It’s not okay. It’s not okay to wish it happened.”
More laughter.
“Well, this is a problem with people. Look, this happens too frequently. I’m sorry this happened on the golf course. A guy was laying in wait and it happens too much. In fact, besides the shooter, there were two other shooters waiting beside him to play through. This has got to stop.”
A recent survey showed that 28% of Democrats believe America would be better off if Trump had been assassinated. Less than half of Democrats believe America would be worse off, compared to 92% of Republicans.
The poll also revealed that the vast majority of Democrats believe Trump is a “major threat to democracy,” by a margin of 82% to 8.
