Mike Benz: ‘Reuters Received $300 Million in Biden Admin Contracts While Maintaining Watchdog Status’
Mike Benz discusses the controversial financial ties between the U.S. government, Reuters, and media integrity.
Mike Benz, the Executive Director of the Foundation for Freedom Online, discusses the intricate relationship between the U.S. government, media outlets, and technology companies.
Benz reveals that Reuters, a major international news agency, has received $1.56 billion in government contracts since 2008, including $300 million from the Biden administration alone.
He explains that although not all contracts are directly related to news production, the financial relationship between government agencies and media outlets has a long and controversial history. This includes instances of planting false stories for geopolitical purposes.
“… Reuters, since the start of the database in 2008, has received $1.56 billion in government contracts. Reuters has a long history of controversy for partnering with the CIA and facilitating CIA fake news stories during the Cold War because Reuters and AP are two major sources for international news… if you can contaminate the source, then you contaminate the entire reservoir of news in the ecosystem.” – Mike Benz
The interview also addresses the challenges of balancing national security with public transparency, particularly regarding recent drone sightings and the government’s reluctance to provide information.
Benz’s insights underscore the complex web of relationships between government, media, and technology companies, raising important questions about the integrity of news reporting, public trust, and the potential manipulation of public opinion through strategic information control.
