A Legacy of Control Disguised as Compassion

Control in America: The Biggest Con Jobs in History

When we reflect on America’s legacy of racism, our minds often conjure images of the Old South—plantations, Jim Crow laws, and segregationist policies upheld by white supremacists. History tells us that Southern Democrats were the architects of many of these systems, which kept Black Americans marginalized, disempowered, and under control for generations. But while this old form of racism is widely acknowledged, there’s a more subtle, yet equally insidious, version alive and well today.

Many would be shocked to hear that the modern Democratic Party—the same one that claims to champion civil rights and equality—is still engaged in a form of control that’s just as damaging. Only this time, it’s dressed up as compassion. In fact, I’d argue that Democrats haven’t shed their racist roots—they’ve just hired a better publicist.

This is the first in a series on Control in America: The Biggest Con Jobs in History, and today, we begin by pulling back the curtain on how Democrats’ so-called compassion keeps Black Americans trapped in cycles of dependency, poverty, and disempowerment. From voter ID laws to public housing, welfare policies, and abortion, the common thread running through these policies is the quiet control exerted over the Black community.

Voter ID: A Thinly Veiled Insult

A key talking point in modern Democratic politics is the opposition to voter ID laws. Their argument? That requiring identification at the polls disproportionately affects Black Americans and other minority communities, effectively disenfranchising them. But what’s the underlying message here?

The claim implies that Black Americans are less capable of obtaining something as basic as a state ID, something required for virtually every adult activity in the U.S. Whether it’s driving, flying, opening a bank account, or picking up a prescription, having an ID is essential. Yet, Democrats continue to push the narrative that asking for this at the voting booth is somehow an unfair burden on minorities.

This is not protection—this is patronizing. It suggests that Black Americans are somehow less competent, less responsible, or less capable than other Americans. This type of soft bigotry masquerades as concern, but at its core, it reflects a deeply paternalistic worldview. Instead of encouraging personal accountability and empowerment, Democrats infantilize the Black community by framing them as helpless victims in need of saving.

The Welfare State: Perpetuating Dependency

For decades, the Democratic Party has positioned itself as the protector of the poor, pushing welfare programs designed to provide for the basic needs of struggling families. But a closer look reveals that these programs, instead of being a temporary helping hand, often trap people in long-term dependency on government aid.

Black Americans, disproportionately impacted by poverty due to generations of systemic discrimination, make up a significant portion of welfare recipients. Democrats frame this as evidence of the need for more government assistance. But what is rarely acknowledged is how these welfare programs keep families trapped in poverty, with little incentive to rise above it.

By pushing welfare without promoting pathways to self-sufficiency—such as job training, educational opportunities, or community investment—Democrats have created a system where government dependence becomes a generational cycle. The very policies that claim to empower are, in reality, keeping Black Americans dependent on government handouts rather than fostering true economic independence.

HUD Housing: The Modern Plantation

The public housing system, largely funded and promoted by Democrats, is another tool of control disguised as compassion. Many Black Americans find themselves trapped in these government-run housing projects, which are often poorly maintained, crime-ridden, and plagued by a lack of opportunity.

The conditions in these housing projects are not just unacceptable—they’re inhumane. Yet Democrats, year after year, champion funding for these failing systems without addressing the deeper issues at play. The reality is that this so-called “affordable housing” often becomes a dead-end for those who live there, with little access to quality education, upward mobility, or the basic dignity of safe living conditions.

Much like the plantations of the past, these public housing systems are designed to keep Black Americans contained and controlled. Instead of opening doors to homeownership, economic freedom, and self-determination, Democrats offer a comfortable prison, where reliance on government assistance is expected and encouraged.

Abortion: A Deadly Legacy

One of the most glaring contradictions in the Democratic platform is its full-throated support for abortion, particularly through organizations like Planned Parenthood. While the party champions abortion rights as a matter of reproductive freedom, it’s no secret that abortion disproportionately affects Black communities. In fact, Black women are nearly four times more likely to have an abortion than their white counterparts.

This is no accident. The roots of the abortion movement are steeped in the racist ideology of eugenics, with Margaret Sanger, co-founder of Planned Parenthood, being a known advocate of reducing the birthrate among minority populations. Her “Negro Project” explicitly targeted Black communities for family planning and birth control, and though the messaging has changed, the results have not.

Today, Planned Parenthood clinics are disproportionately located in minority neighborhoods, continuing this legacy of reducing Black births under the guise of “healthcare.” Democrats, while framing their support for abortion as empowering women, are in fact supporting policies that have decimated Black populations. The same party that claims to stand for Black lives has promoted the very system that quietly eliminates Black generations before they even begin.

A Legacy of Control, Not Compassion

The Democratic Party’s history of racism didn’t vanish with the passage of the Civil Rights Act. It simply adapted. Today, it’s not white hoods and Jim Crow laws, but policies of control packaged as compassion. Whether it’s voter ID, welfare, public housing, or abortion, the common thread is the quiet, insidious control Democrats continue to exert over Black Americans.

They don’t see Black Americans as equals capable of achieving great things without government intervention. They see them as a demographic to be managed, manipulated, and, most importantly, kept reliant on the party’s policies.

The biggest con job in American history is the idea that the Democratic Party is the party of the people. But when you peel back the layers, you see that their version of “help” is just another way to maintain control.

Stay tuned for Part 2, where we’ll dive deeper into the welfare state and how government aid, while promoted as a solution, has become a modern form of slavery for millions of Americans across racial lines.
