Boeing engineer Sam Salehpour has called for the grounding of all Boeing 787 jets to facilitate thorough safety inspections amid growing concerns over the aircraft’s integrity.

Salehpour’s forthcoming testimony before Congress follows a complaint he filed with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) earlier this year, outlining significant safety concerns at Boeing.

In a preview of the interview released by NBC News, Salehpour explained the urgency of addressing these issues to ensure the safety of the global 787 fleet.

When asked whether or not Boeing should ground the 787, Salephour responded:

“I would say they need to.”

Selaphour continued with his explanation for this drastic recourse by the airline manufacturer:

“The entire fleet worldwide, as far as I’m concerned right now, needs an attention. And the attention is you need to check your gaps, make sure that you don’t have potential for premature failure.”

Asked if he would put his own family on one of 787s, he responded: “Right now, I would not.”

When asked what could happen in the event of a fatigue failure at altitude, Salehpour said, “The plane will fall apart at the joints we’re talking about.”

“Once you fall apart, you’re gonna descend all the way to the ground.”
