Canadians Told to Leave Keys Outside to Make it Easier for Thieves to Steal Cars

With rising crime in Toronto, Canada, citizens and police are coming up with creative and sometimes ridiculous ways to deal with robberies.

A viral City News report described a nearly 25% rise in car thefts from 2022 to 2023, explaining police in one area have resorted to passing out doorstops to homeowners to help prevent their doors from being kicked in by criminals.

Toronto Police Service Constable Marco Ricciard appeared in the news segment to tell citizens they should leave their car key fobs their front door because criminals are “breaking into your home to steal your car. They don’t want anything else.”

“A lot of them that they’re arresting have guns on them and they’re not toy guns, they’re loaded,” the officer told the disarmed citizens.
