Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova today declared it was time for NATO to admit its troops are already in Ukraine and have been for some time.

“No point in denying it any longer,” she told the Izvestia newspaper, commenting on Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski’s statement confirming as much.

Commenting on Macron’s statements, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that a direct military conflict between NATO and Russia will be inevitable if Western troops are sent to Ukraine. He also said NATO countries “should also assess” the consequences of such actions and be aware of them, reported Russian state news agency TASS.

“In general, the expansion of the discussion and the persistent activity of Paris in attempts to build a coalition of countries that declare a hypothetical readiness to send a certain contingent, of course, is nothing but a direct line to escalate tensions. This is a dangerous line, very dangerous,” the spokesman told reporters.

Peskov pointed out that this line “could potentially have very undesirable consequences.” “We are watching this very carefully,” he emphasized, added TASS.
